Iteon Announces The First Range Of OATH-Compliant Smart Cards
OATH one-time-passwords can now be generated and checked on smart
cards.
San-Francisco, CA, USA – RSA 2005 – February 15,
2005 – Iteon, the smart cards specialist, today announced
the immediate availability of Comyt, the first range of OATH-compliant
smart cards. Dedicated to open authentication, the Comyt range includes
a Java Card applet, a SIM Toolkit applet that can be used in mobile phones,
and myHSM – the smart card based HSM – to check the
validity of OATH HMAC OTP and other cryptographic algorithms on a server.
Iteon offers both single-user and OEM licensing options.
Iteon's Comyt range uses all functions of the Hashed Message Authentication
Code (HMAC) OTP standard for open strong authentication, which OATH submitted
to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) in October 2004. It also
supports PIN code verification, counter resynchronization, and external
data signature. Products in the Comyt range are compact, fast, reliable
and highly secure.
A Java Card with the Comyt applet can be integrated into USB tokens and
standalone portable readers, or used on personal computers. Using the
Comyt engine, it can generate any type of one-time password with optimal
security. Its modular design allows the Comyt applet to be used on all
types of Java Cards and read on existing standalone readers thanks to
a backward-compatibility module.
For open authentication using mobile phones, Iteon has also launched
Comyt STK, a SIM Toolkit applet based on the Comyt engine for use on the
SIM or USIM card of any equipped 2G or 3G handset.
Finally, to check the validity of user-generated one-time passwords
on a server, Iteon has included the Comyt engine in its myHSM
module. In addition to standard key and security policy management functions,
this smart-card hardware security module now enables any one-time password
to be verified. Highly secure thanks to a FIPS 140-2, level 3 certified
platform, it is available for just a fraction of the price of similar
products.
"With the Comyt range, Iteon is continuing its strategy of developing
simple and practical smart card applications, which fulfill market needs
and expectations. Iteon's product business is now a highly profitable
factor for growth alongside its traditional activities in consulting and
innovation” said Jerome Ajdenbaum, Director at Iteon.
